Ceres Highland Games

If you're fortunate enough to grace us with your presence on the enchanting last Saturday in June, get ready for a truly extraordinary experience at the Ceres Highland Games. These games, tracing their roots back to the historic year of 1314, proudly hold the title of the oldest free Highland Games in all of Scotland. Gifted to the village by none other than the legendary Robert Bruce, this gesture was a heartfelt thank-you for the unwavering support of the community during the pivotal Battle of Bannockburn. Since then, save for periods of war, the 1746 Act of Proscription, and a brief pause during the recent challenges of Covid, the Ceres Highland Games have been an unmissable annual tradition.

What can you expect on this magical day? Think caber tossing with a backdrop of cheers, the grace and tradition of highland dancing, the stirring melodies of talented pipe bands echoing through the air, heart-pounding cycling events and relays, a touch of the Highlands in wrestling matches, and a delightful array of food and craft stalls to explore. The festivities are not complete without the lively presence of a fun fair, adding an extra layer of joy and excitement to the event.

Beyond the athletic prowess and cultural showcases, the Ceres Highland Games exude a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's a celebration where locals and visitors alike come together, forging connections, making memories, and reveling in the shared spirit of community and tradition. So, mark your calendar and join us for a day that promises not just a glimpse into Scotland's rich heritage but a lively, friendly, and unforgettable experience for all ages!
